Search engines use link popularity in their search algorithms and as you can guess, the more “popular” a link is, the more likely it is to rank higher in a search. In addition to numbers and quality, search engines also use context and anchor text in determining the popularity of a link. This means that rather than having the most links, having the most relevant links is the goal for a successful search engine strategy.
